Powell Intends to Remain at FCC

Republican FCC Chairman Michael Powell has, again, said he’s not leaving his post anytime soon. Seeking to dampen speculation he plans to leave his post to either run for public office or go to the private sector, Powell told Reuters this week, “I’m happy where I am.” When asked about his plans earlier in a session with reporters attended by Radio World, Powell said, “I serve at the pleasure of the President.”
His term expires in 2007.
Powell became a commissioner in 1997 under Democrat Bill Kennard’s chairmanship and President George W. Bush named him chairman in 2001.
