According to Nielsen’s UAE Radio Audience Measurement Q1 2018, radio is thriving in the United Arab Emirates.
The report shows the medium reaching 95 percent of the population aged 10 and older in the first-quarter of this year — an increase of 135,000 listeners across UAE from fourth-quarter 2017.
The findings showed augmented reach highest among Filipinos, Iranians and Afghans as well as listening times increasing significantly later in the day.
Numbers grew by 8,000 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and by 27,000 between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. These nighttime listeners are mainly aged 25-44 and, according to Nielsen, are more likely to be on the move.
For 83 percent of the population, AM/FM radio remains the device of choice for listening, while 35 percent also tune in on their mobiles.
Mobile listeners clock an average of four hours 28 minutes per week via their mobile devices, the report disclosed.
