Revenue Winners Once Again: ‘TOP, KISS-FM, Z100

BIA Kelsey says nine of the top 10 commercial stations by revenue are owned by iHeart or Entercom

The list of top-earning U.S. radio stations in 2017 had the same 10 names as the year before, with a few changes in ranking.

According to BIA Kelsey, the leaders were again WTOP in Washington, KIIS in Los Angeles and WHTZ in New York. See chart at bottom.

iHeartMedia and the newly expanded Entercom own nine of the top 10 earners.

The company released data from its Investing In Radio Market Report. As we reported earlier, it also estimates that commercial radio grew online revenues 9.7 percent but that a decline in over-the-air income left it overall relatively flat to the year before, around $13.87 billion, and that local radio is fifth position in ad revenue after direct mail, television, newspaper and mobile local ad platforms.
