SBE Sets Records

The Society of Broadcast Engineers has gone 10 years without increasing its dues, and is now debt-free.
Treasurer John Batson made the announcement at NAB2000. He said SBE’s assets stand at $767,361, an all-time high. Five years ago, that figure was $240,752.
Secretary Barry Thomas reported that membership is at 5,336, with 104 chapters in 46 states and 43 other countries. All of those figures are SBE records. Membership is up 13 percent compared to five years ago.
Buffalo, Chapter 133 was added in 1999.
Society President Andy Butler received chuckles when he said that the next SBE membership meeting “would be held on Mars.” He was referring to Mars, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh, where Chapter 20 will hold its regional meeting concurrently later this year.
The National Meeting is Oct. 3-4, 2000, hosted by Chapter 20, Pittsburgh and the annual regional convention it presents.
