WFUV(FM) host Vin Scelsa is to receive the 2007 ASCAP Deems Taylor Radio Broadcast Award for outstanding coverage of music on his show “Idiot’s Delight.”
The award comes in his 40th year on the air in New York; he has worked in the city his entire career: WFMU(FM), 1967–1969; WBAI(FM), 1969–1970; WABC(FM)/WPLJ(FM), 1970–71; WNEW(FM), 1973–1982; and WXRK(FM), where “Idiot’s Delight” ran from 1985–96.
In 1996, Scelsa returned to WNEW, where his show continued on Sunday nights until the end of 2000. In 2001, he retuned to public radio at WFUV, where he continues to broadcast “Idiot’s Delight,” a mix of music, monologue, live performances and interviews.
Scelsa receives the Deems Taylor award at a reception on Dec. 13 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Allen Room.
