At this year’s NAB Show, NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith will have the opportunity to turn the tables on a panel of radio and television journalists. Smith will interview four White House correspondents during a panel session called “Beyond the Briefing Room: Tales From the White House Beat” on April 9 on the Main Stage, according to an announcement.
The panelists are CBS News Radio’s Steven Portnoy, PBS NewsHour’s Yamiche Alcindor, NBC News’ Hallie Jackson and ABC’s Cecilia Vega. They will share anecdotes and perspectives from their coverage of the Trump administration, the 24/7 news cycle, issues of credibility and more.

“We look forward to hearing from four of today’s most respected White House reporters on how they hold government officials accountable, and how they view the role of a free press in a democratic society,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Communications Dennis Wharton.
Portnoy was the lead radio correspondent for CBS News Radio during the 2016 Presidential campaign, and he has covered inaugurations, political conventions and State of the Union addresses over 15 years in the capital. His career also included work as a radio correspondent for ABC News, where he anchored coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden. Prior to that, he also covered the Boston Marathon bombings and Virginia Tech massacre and had a three-year stint at WMAL(AM) covering local D.C. news.
Yamiche Alcindor also serves as a political contributor for NBC News and MSNBC. She also has worked as national reporter for The New York Times and reported for USA Today. In 2013, the National Association of Black Journalists recognized Alcindor as its “Emerging Journalist of the Year.”
In addition to reporting for NBC news, Hallie Jackson work has also been featured on MSNBC and other NBC News platforms and programs. She anchors “MSNBC Live with Hallie Jackson” and reported on the Republican primaries in 2016. Jackson was previously based in Los Angeles for NBC and prior to that she worked as national correspondent for Hearst Television’s Washington bureau.
Cecilia Vega serves as ABC senior White House correspondent and has earned an Emmy for her work. She’s covered presidential elections dating back to former President Barack Obama. Prior to covering the White House, Vega serve as rotating weekend anchor for “ABC World News Tonight.” She also worked for San Francisco’s KGO(TV) and as a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.
