SBE Ennes Workshop Will Return to LVCC

“The SBE is working with the NAB to present the workshop this year”

SBE, Society of Broadcast EngineersThe Society of Broadcast Engineers has released details of its SBE Ennes Workshop set for Las Vegas in April.

It will be held over two days, April 12 and 13, prior to the opening of the annual NAB Show and will feature tracks on “RF101” and “Media over IP Essentials.”

The workshop will return to the Las Vegas Convention Center after being held in the Westgate in 2023, when it was not officially part of the NAB Show schedule. “The SBE is working with the NAB to present the workshop this year,” the society noted in its announcement.

“‘RF 101’ returns from 2023, starting with Ohm’s Law and ending with RF broadcast systems and the associated components,” according to the release.

“While targeted for newer engineers and those with IT backgrounds, it will also be a good refresher for experienced engineers, involving fast-paced sessions presented by industry experts. A group headed by Jeff Welton will present this workshop.”

New in 2024 is a workshop on IP, organized by David Bialik and Fred Willard, covering covering both video and audio implementations. “The vast majority of audio studio builds today utilize IP infrastructure from the microphone forward, and the ATSC 3.0 universe is totally IP-based.”

And then, “At the end of the second day, a joint, 90-minute session on management skills will be presented. ‘Management for Engineering Staff’ will teach how to speak in terms of ROI, cost of acquisition and cost of ownership/operation — the language owners, managers and financial leaders understand, with a goal toward helping bring engineering back into the management team.”

Workshop registration costs $259, which includes an exhibits pass for the NAB Show. SBE said registration will open on its website soon.

The Ennes Workshops were created in 1991 through the Ennes Educational Foundation Trust “to bring affordable education to members locally.” Regional workshops are held during the rest of the year and typically are one day in length.
