Hey, engineers, if you’re planning your trip to the NAB Show next April, be aware that the Society of Broadcast Engineers’ Ennes Workshop will be on a different schedule.
In the past, the workshop has served for some engineers as a traditional kickoff to the bigger show. But in 2026 the Ennes sessions will be held on April 21 and 22, which is the Tuesday and Wednesday of the convention.
Geary Morrill, SBE’s vice president and chair of the Education Committee, noted that the opening weekend of NAB coincides this year with “WrestleMania 42” at Allegiant Stadium. The WWE event was held in Las Vegas last year though not during the NAB Show. It drew 58,000 to 60,000 people on each of two days, according to news reports.
“Given the WWE event also occurring the same weekend of the show start, we have decided to move to Tuesday and Wednesday,” Morrill told Radio World.
The workshop will again feature two tracks. One is for new entrants to broadcast engineering who are interested in RF basics; the other is about developments in broadcast and multimedia technology. Last year about 120 people participated.
Signup for the Ennes Workshop will again be through the NAB Show website, which is expected to open for registration in coming weeks. Session locations have not been announced yet.
Meanwhile here’s what we know so far about other annual events of interest to engineers:
The Public Radio Engineering Conference is set for Thursday and Friday April 16–17 at the Tuscany Suites Hotel. Last year the PREC drew about 80 in-person and 20 virtual attendees. One story we’ll be watching is whether recent cuts in federal funding to public broadcasters has an impact on turnout. APRE President Scott Hanley told Radio World, “We are aware of the financial constraints on many of our attendees and are working to make this as interactive, successful and affordable as possible.”
Nautel will again hold its pre-NAB Radio Technology Forum, also known as the Nautel User’s Group meeting or NUG, on Sunday, April 19. But it will move this year to the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, which is adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center.
And the NAB’s own Broadcast Engineering & IT Conference (BEITC) will be held April 18–22 (Saturday to Wednesday) at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The sessions this year will be held in the LVCC North Hall Level 2 meeting rooms. Session details have not yet been announced.
