SiriusXM Radio says its receivers are in more than 50 million vehicles and this year, the satcaster projects those receivers will be in the dashboard of close to 70% of all new vehicles.
Whether those radios are all activated is unclear. The company had more than 22 million subscribers at the end of June; some subscribers may have multiple receivers.
The company expects to double factor- installed vehicles to 100 million by 2018.
The satcaster has been courting used car buyers as well, most recently offering three-month free trials to purchasers of “pre-owned” Toyotas and Volkswagens that have in-dash SiriusXM receivers.
The company recently enabled subscribers to personalize their online version of the satellite radio service with the launch of SiriusXM On-Demand.
