Radio automation supplier Spacial Audio Solutions has developed an Internet audio broadcasting application with the blind and visually impaired in mind.
With SAM Vibe, blind or visually impaired users use a screen reader to upload and play music on “their” radio station. Large fonts and color contrasts are also built into the package.
The software gives users the ability to upload and manage large music libraries, control scheduling and automate many aspects of program production.
Spacial Managing Director Pascal Laflamme says with SAM Vibe, broadcasters with or without vision can create their own commercial-quality station from a PC.
Sam Vibe is being used at the broadcast studio operated by SLB Radio Productions, Inc. at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. SLB Radio is also evaluating SAM Vibe to manage iQ Kids Radio, its new service launching with WQED(FM), Pittsburgh in 2013.
The Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Spacial launched its first radio automation software in 2002. That product, SAM Broadcaster, allows broadcasters to stream their stations online.
