Stearns Explores Audio Digital Rights Management

Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., chairman of a subcommittee of the House Commerce Committee, plans to hold a hearing Wednesday on audio content and consumer electronics.
Stearns wants to explore the concept of fair use and the need to protect copyrighted works. He also wants to examine the future of these industries as well as that of digital rights management.
Witnesses set to testify include Dan Halyburton of Susquehanna Radio on behalf of the NAB; Gary Parsons, chairman of XM Satellite; Michael Ostroff of Universal Music Group; Robert Regan of the Nashville Songwriters Association International; and Jeffery Lawrence of Intel Corp.
Stearns held a similar hearing for video in March.
