Stewart: Keep the ‘Local’ in Broadcasting

Stewart: Keep the 'Local' in Broadcasting

Keep providing localism. That’s the advice from Roy Stewart, long-term FCC Mass Media Bureau Chief and now Chief of the Office of Broadcast License Policy, to broadcasters.
Stewart said there might be other delivery systems down the road that may be able to deliver what stations can. Referring to satellite radio, Stewart said without localism, broadcasting is just another delivery system. He urged broadcasters to continue to provide local programming so “the FCC and Congress care what happens to you.”
Stewart spoke at NAB’s State Leadership Conference.
