A system supplied by VCS will handle the central processing of all national BBC Radio programming for live streaming, on-demand streaming and downloads.
The British public broadcaster commissioned VCS in early October 2007 to develop an advanced content management solution as part of the BBC Audio & Music “Coyopa” project, which will extend the online offering of BBC national radio stations for live and on-demand listening.
The system features a dira! New Media solution along with additional functionalities developed specifically for the BBC. Work on implementing the two-phase project, scheduled for delivery in 2008 and 2009, is already under way.
The dira! New Media solution will give the BBC server-based functionalities for editing content and will accelerate the process of adapting programs for the various distribution channels.
With the Coyopa system, it will be possible to block sections of a program depending on the Internet distribution rights for the content. A new VCS multichannel player capable of serving up to 28 channels will allow the playout of alternative audio where rights are not available.
