The European Broadcasting Union has a new president – Arne Wessberg, head of Finnish public-service broadcaster Yleisradio.
Wessberg succeeds Albert Scharf, director general of Bavaria’s public service broadcaster. Scharf completes his ninth consecutive two-year term as EBU president at the end of the year.
The EBU represents 69 national broadcasters in 50 nations in and around Europe. Its activities include the Euroradio and Eurovision network, which exchanges news, sport and cultural programming among member organizations; the Eurovision Song Contest; and legal, technical and training support.
Wessberg is a former journalist and has been director general of YLE since April 1994.
