Westwood One and one of its business partners has licensed the washingtonpost.com Web site to the RealTraffic Web service. The newspaper site now offers subscribers personalized traffic content and alerts, delivered via SMS or e-mail.
Westwood One provides the traffic info; its partner Maptuit maintains a database of North American roads. Commuters can set up accounts through the Post site in which they define trips such as “home to the gym on weekdays at 7:30 a.m.” At specified intervals, the service checks the route for traffic incidents and sends an alert if appropriate. The user also can use the Web site to ask for an alternate route.
