WIHG Returns to Air

Credits competing stations, volunteer with help

WIHG’ s Wrecked Tower

This story has been amended to correct the tower height.

Classic Hits “The Hog” WIHG(FM), Crossville, Tenn., is back on the air with the help of competing stations and volunteers.

The Crossville Radio station was knocked off the air over the weekend after ice and snow fell and sheared off the top of its 100-foot tower and parts crashed through the roof of its transmitter building.

The station is now operating at reduced power using a temporary antenna, according to the WIHG Facebook page.

Sister station CHR-formatted “The Vibe” WIHG-HD2 channel and its FM translator “suffered complete destruction” of its tower and antenna system, according to the station. Crossville Radio hoped to have “The Vibe” back on the air today using a temporary tower.

Both stations had referred listeners to their webstreams and apps in the meantime.
