YES Hopes to Create Virtual Community of Music Listeners

Broadcast monitoring network YES is promoting its service that lets listeners find songs that played on radio and music TV in the past seven days and vote to influence its charts for the station they’re listening to.
It uses a chart application that merges broadcast data with user comments. Listeners can chat with others listening to the same station and see how they vote.
The company says its “virtual community” includes seven-day logs for 2,600 AM, FM and XM stations as well as CMT, FUSE, MTV, MTV2 and VH1. The chat platform lets visitors talk to others and rate 500,000 songs per day. Also on the site: station audience charts, Aggregated National Audience charts across genres and markets, and a national map that shows song titles as they start to play on 2,600 U.S. stations.
The site uses data from Mediaguide, which YES formed with ASCAP in 2003.
