Best of Show: Orban Optimod 5950: Super Hi-Fi Edition

Orban processing with Super Hi-Fi technology rolled in

We are featuring the products that won the Radio World Best of Show Award at the 2024 NAB Show. Winners were chosen by a panel of engineers and RW editorial staff for their innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry. information about how the program works can be found in an FAQ here.

This box combines processing innovation from Orban with Super Hi-Fi AI-based programming and HLS+ technology.

“This first-ever, all-in-one appliance is designed to replace racks of playout equipment, audio processing, PPM encoding and metadata servers in a single 1U rackspace and represents our joint approach to the modern infrastructure and ecosystem for radio,” the companies said.

It works with HLS+ so stations can deliver broadcasts with metadata while offering interactive and personalized versions through mobile apps, smart speaker integrations and web clients.

Users can program, image, voice track and broadcast from a browser using Super Hi-Fi Program Director, then deliver it to the transmitter and other endpoints via HLS+ streaming, and play it out at the transmitter, including PPM encoding and metadata output, using this appliance. They call this “a 100% cloud-based system with a digital-first approach to playout right at the transmitter site.”

Shown are Orban’s Mike Pappas, Peter Lee, Bob Orban and David Day.
