A New Old Hybrid From Glensound

Mixing the past with the modern cleans up POTS

Seeing some life in POTS, England’s Glensound has a new hybrid, the Copper 29. Glensound has been in the hybrid business since the 1960s. Who’s to argue?

The Copper 29 does make use of modern technology however. Dual digital signal processors clean up the signal with one handling echo-cancelling while the second governs compressor/limiter, AGC, band-pass filters and ducking. Glensound is claiming 80 dB separation.

A CPLD (complex programmable logic device) handles the digital conversion. Onboard circuitry handles phone line impedance matching. Each Copper 29 unit includes two hybrids.

The front panel has send and return level meters.
