AEQ Loves Venus

Dual-stereo IP codec joins other new offerings

Broadcast equipment manufacturer AEQ has a number of new items planned for display at the NAB Show.

On the codec front, the Phoenix Venus makes its debut. A dual-stereo IP codec, the Venus can establish two bidirectional stereo or four mono (to one or two locations) connections. It is N/ACIP EBU Tech3326 compliant and offers multicast capabilities. It works with AEQ’s new ControlPhoenix codec management software.

The AEQ Phoenix Mercury is the portable little brother to rackmounted Venus. It shares most of the features but operates more as a slave via PC control. Two Mercuries can fit on a 19-inch rack tray. It too can be controlled via ControlPhoenix.

And speaking of ControlPhoenix, the control and management software can control Phoenix codecs that are either be part of the same local area network as the PC or workstation or belong to remote networks. The remote control software delivers additional functions such as common and individual phonebook management with import/export utilities, events log, configuration save/load/reset and remote high-resolution VU meters.

AEQ provides as standard a single-codec version of the PhoenixControl software. Multicodec management is available for download at an additional optional license fee. The new software permits the user to visualize each installation as a tile of individual control windows or as a list.

Another new product is the AEQ Systel IP. AEQ describes Systel IP as a “call-in system with multi-conference capability.” It is built upon a hardware digital router and caller/conferencing software. It should integrate with third-party telephone systems.

AudioPlus is a scheduler/automation program that AEQ says “incorporates the needed tools to automatically schedule music, advertisement and even future news, at one-time for several weeks, by creating playout templates and filling them instantly and automatically or alternatively as the contents are made available.”
