Mauritius Broadcasting Modernizes With WinMedia Software

The project includes four video cameras in each studio as well as 13 sets of broadcast software

Mauritius Broadcasting Corp. is using WinMedia broadcast software and a WinCam visual radio system after completion of a modernization project this summer.

The installations were done at MBC headquarters in Moka and the broadcaster’s station in Rodrigues, the smallest island in the Mascareignes archipelago.

According to a project summary from WinMedia, MBC Radio has been operating since 2011 from its premises in Moka, with a staff of 150, including around 30 radio technicians who work in the control and master control rooms.

MBC operates two AM channels (Radio Maurice in French and Creole, and Radio Mauritius in Hindustani and regional language) and three FM channels (Kool FM in English, French and Creole, Best FM, a Bollywood music channel, and Taal FM in Hindustani and regional language).

WinMedia worked in conjunction with the company Eurocom, which provided audio over IP networking, DHD consoles, microphones, refurbishment and studio work.

The project includes four video cameras in each studio as well as 13 sets of broadcast software. On each site there is a main server and a backup server with data transfer between the two sites.

“A point-to-point link between Moka and Rodrigues enables MBC teams to exchange data directly into the WinMedia system: for example, advertising campaign files, new music, news, files for newspapers,” WinMedia said. Until now, it said, MBC’s employees would transfer files using hard disks sent by air.
