At IFA in Berlin this week, Frontier Silicon plans to display a receiver module for DAB, DAB+ and DMB-Radio that is compliant with the WorldDMB receiver standard.
The company says this represents a significant step towards meeting the needs of manufacturers seeking to deliver a single mass-market, low-power unified digital radio for Europe and Australia.
The availability of DMB-Radio on Frontier Silicon’s Venice 7 module is especially significant for France, according to Frontier Silicon, where the government has mandated that all radio receivers must be equipped with a DMB-Radio tuner by September 2013.
As part of the digital radio switchover in France, broadcasters are planning to launch DMB-Radio services this year in Paris, Nice and Marseille.
The Venice 7 module supports DAB, DAB+, DMB-Radio and FM without the additional cost of external SDRAM memory. It includes all necessary interfaces, needing only power supply, display, keypad, audio amplifier and speakers to complete a product, according to the manufacturer.
