For the sixth time, iBiquity Digital got consumer electronics industry execs together in China to talk about HD Radio development.
The meeting drew about 250 people. It was in Shenzhen, China, timed to this week’s Hong Kong Electronics Fair. As we reported last week, iBiquity made a number of announcements about chip and receiver development at that convention.
The company’s Jeff Jury said the purpose was to involve companies that build HD Radio products, from design through receiver manufacturing, to discuss the state of the industry and various developments. IC suppliers, module suppliers, test unit manufacturers, reference platform designers and software design houses demonstrated HD Radio offerings.
Attendees heard from vendors working on next-generation chips and representatives from IBOC module suppliers and HD Radio design houses.
Specifically, according to an iBiquity event summary, a design session included an overview of HD Radio architectures for the new Samsung SHDR200A Cayman-based chipset and SiPort SP1010, SDK 3.1; certification process updates; manufacturing testing; and hardware design considerations.
A features/applications session provided an overview from a technical perspective of SDK Software Tools, design and development of traffic-based services for portable navigation devices and head units, development of a conditional access-based radio, and iTunes tagging for iPod and iPhone docks.
IBiquity also said IC and advanced services were featured, including updates from Clear Channel Communications, which gave an update on HD-TMC/MSN Direct HD Traffic Services, and Elektrobit, a navigation applications provider, with an overview of the MSN DirectHD implementation. Conditional access, iTunes tagging, store and replay, and display standards were discussed. Samsung EM, SiPort, Texas Instruments, NXP and STMicroeletronics gave IC presentations, the company said.
