Mackie Launches New Monitors

Powered 3- and 4-inch monitors start the Creative Reference line

Audio equipment maker Mackie has created a new line of monitors for multimedia work, the Creative Reference series.

The initial models, shipping in August, are the CR3 and CR4 (shown).

Both units are powered by 50 W onboard amplifiers and have 3/4-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters. The CR3 has a 3-inch polypropylene-coated woofer, while the CR4 has a similar 4-inch version of the woofer. They operate in a master/slave configuration.

The front panels feature a volume knob/on-off control along with a 1/8-inch headphone output and 1/8-inch audio input (suggested uses smartphone or MP3 player). The rear panel of the master speaker has 1/4-inch and RCA inputs in addition to a L/R switch and push clip stereo speaker outputs. The cabinet is all wood.

Mackie specs the speakers at 80 Hz–20 kHz for the CR3 and 70 Hz–20 kHz for the CR4. An acoustic isolation mat ships with the speakers along with a 1/8-inch to stereo RCA and 1/8-inch to 1/8-inch interface cables.

Prices: CR3 — $129.99 (pair); CR4 — $199.99 (pair).
