Marantz Flashes Its PMD580

Rackmountable recorder is networkable

Marantz brought the PMD580 solid-state media recorder to the NAB Show.

The rackmountable PMD580 uses CompactFlash as its recording media (the CF slot is shown). File formats include MP3 and WAV, 16-bit or 24-bit.

Using an Ethernet connector the PMD580 is networkable. An internal browser aids in network navigation and programmed operation. A backlit LCD provides information as well as LED metering. Large colored transport buttons, a jog encoder, 1/4-inch headphone jack along with a USB port populate the front.

On the back, besides an Ethernet connector, AES/EBU and S/PDIF connectors and an RS-232 D-sub are also present.

D&M Professional Director of Sales Peter Papageorge said: “By adding network connectivity, the PMD580 takes the solid-state digital recorder to an entirely new level, one that will vastly increase users’ flexibility and their ability to communicate, the ultimate mission of any recording device.”
