Elgato’s Stream Deck Studio Adds Rackmount Panel

The POE+ capable device is useful for content switching, according to Dan Slentz

In 2021, I wrote about Elgato’s Stream Deck. At the time, I reached out to Elgato suggesting a rackmount version of this device but with both network and USB connections. I’m always thrilled when any manufacturer listens to suggestions.

I went as far as creating a mock-up the design, since Elgato hadn’t produced anything rackmountable in the past, and I even opened my own Stream Deck to see if disassembly and modification were possible. Unfortunately, the way it was designed, the buttons and displays were part of a single part. On the positive side, they added some 360-degree dial controls and push-to-activate.

Well, Elgato has put Stream Deck into a standard 19-inch rackmount panel and they have called it the Stream Deck Studio. Studio” lists for $899 USD with discounts for buying multiple units in 2-packs, 3-packs, and 4-packs with a traditional desktop Stream Deck unit. I would have liked to see the price point closer to $600 USD, based on the price of its Stream Decks, but in fairness, they did add network ability and a RJ45 connection, so it certainly is more advanced.

I’ve seen knockoffs of Stream Deck through Temu and other sources, but some of their button displays are monochrome or limited display, and there seemed to be user reviews indicating software issues. With the initial user reviews on Stream Deck Studio, most are good, but a few cite issues with networking. As we know, networking depends on a lot more than “plug n’ play,” and there’s no indication if the problems were happening on a DHCP address (automatic IP connection) or static IP (fixed).

With so many computer systems from radio automation to network control, routing, or even satellite steering and switching, I can see the new Stream Deck Studio as a valuable tool for quick manual intervention in controlling these systems.
