Inovonics Partners With BE on Tuner Option

Translator users can check reception from any web-enabled device

Inovonics is highlighting that its receiver technology is now available inside an FM transmitter.

It partnered with Broadcast Electronics to build its SDR-based FM and HD Radio tuner as an option into the new BE MTX Compact transmitter platform, where it feeds translators without an outboard receiver.

As we reported last week, BE introduced the MTX at NAB Show New York.

The optional MTX Tuner Module rides in the transmitter’s Content Gateway, which is BE’s framework for running content hardware and software in the MTX rather than in separate boxes.

“The module carries the tuner technology from Inovonics’ receiver line: a sensitive SDR-based front end, metering of off-air reception, streaming for multiple remote listeners, extensive alarm options and multi-level password protection,” Inovonics noted.

“Engineers can check reception from any web-enabled device, whether PC, tablet or smartphone.”

At a translator site the module serves as the audio input. At other MTX installations it adds confidence monitoring without a separate box, a separate IP address or separate rack space.

Inovonics President/CEO Ben Barber noted that rack space can be in short supply at translator sites. “Having the tuner built into the transmitter streamlines the setup and saves space while providing the full-time monitoring and alarm features that keep stations on the air.”
