Sonnox Ships Encoder

Plug-in developer works with Fraunhofer

Software plug-in developer Sonnox is shipping the Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec, a multiple software codec encoder designed to handle Fraunhofer’s popular codecs.

An obvious use for radio stations would be for improving the quality of podcasts.

Fraunhofer Pro-Codec is available for RTAS, AU, VST and native systems, covering Pro Tools, Nuendo, Cubase, Wavelab, Logic and Sequoia. Codecs available include: MP3, MP3 Surround, MP3 HD, AAC-LC, HE-AAC, HE-AAC v2 and HD-AAC.

Sonnox Managing Director Rod Densham said the encoder lets engineers audition codecs precisely in real time. “Additionally, the Pro-Codec eliminates the time-consuming cycle of encoding a mix to MP3/AAC, previewing, tweaking and re-rendering. The entire process may now be accomplished ‘on the fly,’ freeing the engineer to concentrate on producing an optimized mix during the preview process.”
