ABU Delegates Get First Hand Look at DAB+

Twenty delegates from eight nations representing various member groups in the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) are in Sydney, Australia, this week to learn more about how DAB+ has been implemented by radio groups there.
As guests of Commercial Radio Australia (CRA), senior operations, programming and technical mangers from MRTBN-Mongolia; RTHK-Hong Kong; RTB-Brunei; VOV-Vietnam; TBS-Japan; LRN-Laos; RTM & IPPTAR-Malaysia; and Mediacorp-Singapore, are touring both DMG and Austereo studio facilities, as well as a major multiplex transmission facility at Artarmon, 9km northwest of central Sydney. The group is also attending presentations by CRA officials, as well as public broadcasters and government regulators who will explain their respective roles in Australia’s unprecedented rollout of DAB+. The extensive program schedule is scheduled to take place over three days.
“The Asia Pacific region is an important market for DAB+. Radio listening figures are high and it’s a major manufacturing region,” said Joan Warner, CEO for Commercial Radio Australia. Obviously pleased with the scrutiny that Australia’s digital radio experience is receiving from its Asian rim neighbors, Ms. Warner went on to suggest that adoption of DAB+ in those countries could go a long way to reinforcing DAB+ as the global digital radio standard.”
