DAB+ Testing Begins in Belgium

Belgian Public broadcaster VRT has started testing a DAB+ transmission

BRUSSELS�Belgian Public broadcasterVRThas started testing a DAB+ transmission. �”News+” is currently being heard on the station, which is labeled as “VRT DAB+ Test.” �The DAB + test channel transmits with a bandwidth of 32 kbps, which is enough for spoken word only, according to Radio.nl.

VRT has been broadcasting with the DAB standard since 1997 on channel 12A.� Stations that are carried on the mux are Radio 1, Radio 2, Klara, Studio Brussel, MNM, Klara continuo MNM hits and News+.� It�s not known when or if VRT will convert these to DAB+.

Within a few weeks the first commercial radio stations will start transmitting via DAB +. �In Brussels, Top Radio, VBRO Radio, Radio Maria, Radio FG, Radio City and Family Radio will be heard over DAB+.
