Digital Radio Growth Anticipated in the Netherlands, Belgium

Nearly 60% of Europeans can now receive DAB+

iStock/MervanaAMSTERDAM � Some of the Low Countries anticipate significant growth in the digital radio sphere.

In the Netherlands, the number of DAB + radios sold grew in 2016 by 33%, as compared to 2015. The Netherlands is �on track with its plan to achieve the fastest rollout of DAB + in Europe,� according tototaaltv.nl.

Nearly 60% of Europeans can now receive DAB+, and across Europe more than 50 million DAB or DAB+ radios have been sold.

In Belgium, the public broadcasterRTBFhas selected Paneda to provide a complete DAB+ solution for their upcoming digital radio rollout. The contract is for 16 Multiplexers, 192 audio encoders, all data handling and management systems, all in full redundancy. Paneda and its local partnerHeynenwill handle installation and support. The contract also contains a support contact with 24-7 support from Paneda.�

The complete system will be realized using VMware virtualization and each system will host eight multiplexers and 96 encoders. The VMware servers will be installed in different locations ensuring full redundancy.�
