Samsung Further Commits to its Support of FM Tuners in Smartphones

It's good news for the headphone jack, too

SEOUL While many Android-based smartphones have the ability to receive FM signals via an integral tuner, many mobile carriers prevent end users from taking advantage of this hardware probably in an effort to get their customers to spend more money on data, according to this story in Gadget Hacks.

Often, weve written about NextRadio (an app that allows users to listen to the radio via their phone’s built-in FM tuner). LG and Motorola have recently added support for the service, and now Samsung is adding live FM radio support for 2018 and beyond.

This is also good news for 3.5 mm headphone jack users because the wired headphones serve as the antenna for receiving FM signals. Samsung has committed to keeping the much-loved headphone jack around for some time to come.
