NAB Sneak Peek: Sonnet Sends Thunderbolts

New interface expansion boxes utilize Thunderbolt 3 technology

Text has been updated to correct several errors.

Computer equipment maker Sonnet Technologies has a new group of Thunderbolt 3-enabled products coming to the NAB Show.

Added to the Echo Express family of Thunderbolt-to-PCI Express expansion boxes are the Echo Express SEL and Echo Express SE I Thunderbolt 3 Editions (pictured). These boxes provide open PCIe slots for notebook computers or computers that have all of their internal PCIe slots filled. Data transfer speeds for the boxes can reach up to 2,750 Mbps in Mac or Windows systems. Connection is made from the box to a Thunderbolt 3 port for maximum throughput.

Also new are the SF 3 Series CFast 2.0 card readers. Bus-powered, and using Thunderbolt 3 technology, the readers cards should sustain 1,000 Mbps. Family members will be distinguished by the different card format they handle.

In addition, the company will show a range of Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 2 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters and cards for bringing Thunderbolt or other computer systems into 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks.
