Bush Creates Amber Coordinator at Justice

President Bush is helping to give the Amber Plan a higher profile.
He has directed the attorney general to establish an Amber Alert coordinator at the Justice Department, to oversee the establishment of national standards for issuing the alerts.
According to the National Center of Missing & Exploited Children, Bush also said the attorney general and secretary of transportation will provide $10 million to develop Amber training and education programs and encourage the use of electronic highway message boards and the other systems as part of Amber.
The announcements were made as part of a White House Conference on Missing, Exploited and Runaway Children.
Ernie Allen, president and CEO of NCMEC, said, “With the president’s support, we are confident many more Amber plans will be developed and many more children will be saved.”
