Letter: Is the Truth Too Much to Ask?

"The electorate cannot make informed decisions based on opinion"

In this letter to the editor, the author responds to Thane Conriocht’s comments in the story “Public Radio Needs to Set Aside Its Political Bias.” Radio World welcomes letters to the editor on this or any story. Email [email protected].

To the editor:

I think Stephen Colbert’s observation “It is well-known the truth has a liberal bias” is profound, and explains much of the supposed “liberalism” in public media.

In addition to accurately perceiving the public’s perception of the smorgasbord of “information” served to them, it is also implies that the balance-at-all-costs (truth be damned) approach does a dis-service to proven reality.

Given the diminishing degree of truth served to the public by all media, this observation is more important than ever! “Truthiness” — another Colbertism — is not good enough! The electorate cannot make informed decisions based on opinion, they need facts.
