Radioplayer Partners Increase Investment

Move follows extended agreements with automakers

The partners behind Radioplayer, the project working to ensure easy access to radio via IP platforms, are increasing their investment in the platform to support its expansion internationally, in cars, and to connected devices.

In a joint statement, Radioplayer members the BBC, U.K. commercial radio organization Radiocentre, and the broadcast groups Global and Bauer Media stated, “We are delighted to support Radioplayer’s mission to supercharge a new phase of growth by cementing partnerships with international broadcasters, automotive and technology partners.”

The statement continued, “With record levels of investment and a new CEO, Yann Legarson, in place, we believe the venture has the resources and leadership for a bright future which will see a significant expansion of digital audio across all platforms together with a greater international presence, ultimately bringing benefits for all audiences.”

Details of the increased investment were not disclosed.

The announcement follows the signing of an expanded partnership with Cariad, automaker Volkswagon’s software company, and a similar agreement with automaker Renault earlier this year.

“I’m thrilled the Radioplayer members have committed major new investment to deliver our next phase of growth. I’m looking forward to working with the team here and all our partners to grow the scale and impact of our strategy as we bring world-class radio listening experiences to cars and connected environments everywhere,” stated Radioplayer CEO Yann Legarson.
