Radioplayer and Cariad Extend Their Partnership

They highlight the role of hybrid radio

Radioplayer and Volkswagen Group’s software company Cariad have extended their working relationship on matters involving connected car dashboards.

“The new agreement extends the partnership Radioplayer has had with Audi since 2017,” Radioplayer said in its announcement. It said that with this news, Cariad and Radioplayer “emphasize the relevance of hybrid radio and ensure radio provides a real added value to Volkswagen Group customers.”

Cariad will provide customers of Volkswagen Group brands with hybrid radio switching between DAB+, FM and internet streaming.

Radioplayer provides broadcaster data including station logos, descriptions and streams from its Worldwide Radioplayer API, or WRAPI. It said such data is serving radios in 2 million cars in Europe and Canada.

“In addition, Radioplayer will also be collaborating with Cariad on the development of the future radio experience in connected cars.” Radioplayer’s auto streaming app will also be available in the Volkswagen Group Application Store, which is available in various Audi models in Europe, the United States, Canada, Mexico and other markets.

Radioplayer operates in 19 countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK). Its platform Radioplayer Worldwide is a partnership between UK Radioplayer and the countries that have rolled out its model.

Radioplayer also recently announced a hybrid radio agreement with Renault.
