Fire Forces Six Stations to Temporarily Relocate

FMs belonging to iHeart, Hubbard and Entercom moved to Cougar Mountain

SEATTLE — Amidst the many wildfires plaguing the West Coast this fall, it’s probably not surprising that a fire forced six Seattle FM stations off the air this week. But what might shock you is where and how the blaze originated.

On the morning of Nov. 8, the top of the master antenna at American Towers’ Tiger Mountain facility caught fire, Jim Dalke of SBE Chapter 16 reported in the Waveguide this week.

The damage requires iHeartMedia stations KZOK(FM), KBKS(FM), KJAQ(FM); Hubbard Broadcasting stations KNUC(FM) and KQMV(FM); and Entercom’s KSWD(FM) to broadcast from an auxiliary site on nearby Cougar Mountain indefinitely.

Note that an earlier version of this article misstated the ownership of KZOK and KSWD. This error has now been corrected.
