Ruck joined D.L. Markley and Associates in 1989. He graduated from Bradley University with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering degree. While at Bradley, Ruck specialized in RF and transmission lines, high voltage power systems and control theory, and served as the chairman of the student branch of the IEEE. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois.

He began writing the RF Engineering column in 2010.
