2000 And Beyond Will Be Good Years For Radio

“Dot-com” advertising, the summer Olympics and the presidential election as well as a strong economy will expand broadcast advertising 10 percent, to reach a record $74.5 billion in 2000, according to CIT Equipment Financing’s Annual Broadcast Outlook.
Next year is also expected to be a good year for broadcast advertising, with a predicted 6.7 percent increase, which would be another record for the industry.
Radio is expected to fare even better, with an expected rise in advertising revenues of 11 percent, to reach a record $18.8 billion this year. Next year will also be record setting for radio. According to CIT, radio can expect a seven percent growth rate in 2001.
“Radio, like TV, will benefit from advertising tied to the fall election, as well as “dot-coms,” said Michael Paslawskyj, vice president of economic research at CIT.
