ALC NetworX has announced that arkona technologies has chosen the company’s Ravenna technology as its IP-based transport platform.
Arkona CEO Rainer Sturm said the firm believes that the future of broadcast production and distribution will be IP-based and that the increased capabilities of commodity IT hardware and the availability of 10 Gbps Ethernet and beyond will end dependence on industry-specific linear connections.
“Cat-6 or fiber carrying real-time HD/3G video will drive the next technological evolution of production equipment,” said Sturm. He added that choosing Ravenna technology as the foundation for its stringent IP connectivity requirements was logical.
“As an open technology based on IT industry standards, Ravenna offers the flexibility to adapt to the arising challenges of delivering unsurpassed video and audio distribution quality and performance,” he said.
According to Andreas Hildebrand, senior product manager for ALC NetworX, this move broadens the spectrum of applications for Ravenna.
“The backing of Arkona technologies sure is another step for Ravenna towards an industry-wide accepted standard for IP-based real-time media distribution,” said Hildebrand.
