BBC Radio is stretching its legs, announcing that all of its radio services will be available to listeners outside of the United Kingdom for the first time courtesy of the iPlayer Radio app. The first country to receive access to the new app will be the Republic of Ireland; no other countries have been announced as of yet.
The iPlayer app will be available for free on iOS, Android and Amazon Fire devices. Users can listen to all of BBC’s radio stations live or as a podcast.
“We hope that the app will be a destination on mobile home screens for audiences around the world who want to explore the breadth of BBC Radio, from news and current affairs to drama, comedy and music,” James Montgomery, digital development director for BBC News and Current Affairs, told Digital Spy.
There has been no word, however, from the BBC on whether it will offer its iPlayer online streaming service for TV to other countries.
