The FCC’s Audio Division has proposed to amend its table of FM allotments by removing the 105.5 Class A allocation for Selmer, Tenn., which is located about 75 miles east of Memphis.
It is considered a vacant channel resulting from the cancellation of WXQQ(FM)’s license back in 2022.
A recent staff analysis determined that the 105.5 allocation is about 65 miles from WVNA(FM) in Muscle Shoals, Ala., which results in a short spacing.
The minimum distance spacing requirement is about 71 miles for a pair of Class A FMs.
The engineering analysis determined that there are no alternative channels that would alleviate the conflict with WVNA.
The Audio Division said that the proposed deletion would serve the public interest because the spacing conflict would then be resolved.
The commission invites comments on the proposed deletion. Any party that expresses interest in the Selmer allocation will be required to provide evidence that a properly spaced site is technically feasible, as well as that it has reasonable assurance of transmitter site availability.
Comments are due July 24, while reply comments are due August 10.
