MMTC, NABOB Pen Congratulatory Letter to Brendan Carr

Accolades also come from three other media groups

Several prominent leaders in broadcasting, advocacy and minority media ownership have formally congratulated Brendan Carr on his appointment as chairman of the FCC.

Penned by leaders from the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), U.S. Black Chambers (USBC), Roberts Radio Broadcasting, Multicultural Media, Telecom & Internet Council (MMTC) and the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB), a letter was sent to the new chairman on Feb. 5.

The letter addressing Carr reads, in part: “We greatly appreciate the leadership you have shown in championing important changes to the broadcast industry over the past decade. Whether being one of the early voices advocating for ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV, or helping lead the effort on allowing radio stations to participate in the 21st century with geo-targeting technology, you have shown your commitment to encouraging broadcast technology and a clear recognition that the rules governing the industry need to change or else the industry will not be in a position to serve the public in the years and decades ahead.”

The collective of broadcast leaders went on to further emphasize Carr’s role in adopting the final rules for FM geotargeting, which went into effect this past November.

The letter concludes with the statement: “We are excited about the opportunity to work with you as you lead the FCC and address the many important issues that need reform. We stand ready to assist and wish you well in your new role.”
