Sports Video Streaming Deal Includes DTS AutoStage

Content from Free Live Sports will be accessible in BMWs with Xperi’s video platform

Here’s an announcement from the streaming side of the media business that touches on an important trend in connected cars, namely video.

As we’ve reported, Xperi offers a video service via its DTS AutoStage platform. It believes that video content is going to become an increasingly important and popular part of the in-car experience for consumers.

Xperi also is the parent of TiVo.

Now a company called Free Live Sports has announced it will launch 45 free, ad-supported sports channels on devices that are “powered” by TiVo.

These include smart TVs with the TiVo operating system in North America and Europe; paid video services that use TiVo’s IPTV platforms; and BMW vehicles globally that offer the DTS AutoStage Video Service.

Cathy Rasenberger, president of Free Live Sports, was quoted in the release saying “We’re bringing comprehensive, high-quality sports programming to viewers wherever they are — at home or on the road — leveraging TiVo’s powerful global platform.” She made the announcement with Scott Maddux, vice president of global content strategy and business development for the TiVo subsidiary of Xperi.

Xperi calls the DTS AutoStage Video Service “the first comprehensive in-car entertainment platform, allowing drivers and passengers to continue their viewing experience from home to vehicle.”
