CBA Offers Scholarships

March 14 is application deadline

The Connecticut Broadcasters Association is accepting applications for its 2014 Scholarship Awards program for students looking for a career in broadcasting.

According to a release, the available scholarships range from one-year grants of $2,500 to the Nelson Brown Scholarship ($5,000) and the Paul K. Taff Scholarship ($10,000 across four years). The CBA notes that it has awarded more than $550,000 over the last nine years. Last year, 14 students were awarded.

Eligibility requirements are Connecticut residency; pursuit of a career in broadcasting, communications, marketing, engineering or electronics; attendance or plans to attend a two-year, four-year college/university or technical school — Connecticut location is not mandatory.

The CBA says, “Awarding of scholarships is based upon the basis of need and/or demonstrated talent. Considered will be the individual’s broadcasting goals, current academic average, extra-curricular activities involving the electronic media, need and recommendations from faculty, employers and others and/or on the basis of need.” CBA adds, “Financial need documentation is required.”

Applications can be found here at the CBA website. The deadline for applications is March 14.
