Family, friends and colleagues of Arne Skoog are mourning the CBS Radio Seattle engineer and RF facilities manager, who died on Monday from colon cancer.
Skoog had been with the station cluster for two decades.
Radio World Technical Advisor and Director of Engineering & MIS at CBS Radio Seattle Tom McGinley worked closely with Skoog for more than a decade. He wrote a tribute to Skoog on the Society of Broadcast Engineers Seattle Chapter’s website: “Our beloved Arne Skoog lost his battle with colon cancer on July 22, 2013. A number of us were able to see him in recent days and spent some cherished moments reminiscing about many of the memories and the wonderful contributions he has made to our enterprise over the past 20-some years he has served us.”
He added: “As most of you know, Arne was an extraordinarily capable and gifted engineer. He could fix almost anything. And best of all, he was so gentle and kind to everyone, always willing to help in any way he could. I came out here in 2000 to help Arne. We had a superb 13 year run together. He really was the chief engineer of our stations, not me. He will be missed beyond words.”
One of the cluster stations, KZOK(FM) put up a tribute to Skoog, “We’ll Miss You, Arne.”
It noted: “At radio stations — or any type of broadcast company, engineers can sometimes carry a reputation of being high-strung and impatient with co-workers who don’t completely understand how things operate. This was never the case with Arne. He was always willing to help with issues, explain why things were acting a certain way and never questioned why you were asking a favor of him.”
Services will be held for Arne on July 28 at 3 p.m. at Funeral Alternatives in Lacey, Wash.
