The Consumer Electronics Association inducted the German team of Dieter Seitzer, Heinz Gerhauser and Karlheinz Brandenburg into its Hall of Fame.

The scientists were honored on behalf of Fraunhofer researchers and engineers who have developed the MP3 audio coding format since the early 1980s.

Seitzer, Gerhauser and Karlheinz received their awards from CEA President/CEO Gary Shapiro in October.

Also among those inducted were Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft; and Amar Bose, founder and chairman of Bose Inc., as reported here earlier.

Previous inductees include Ray Dolby, William Hewett and David Packard.
