Clyburn Gets Thumbs Up in Early Returns

She's nominated at the FCC

Reaction to the news that President Barack Obama intends to nominate South Carolina Democrat Mignon Clyburn to the FCC is drawing favorable response in broadcasting circles.

Acting Commission Chairman Michael Copps, a fellow Democrat, called Clyburn an “excellent choice” and said her experience on South Carolina’s Public Service Commission will be an invaluable asset.

The lone sitting GOP commissioner, Robert McDowell, also cited her PSC experience as well as her involvement in many professional and civic organizations that he said gives her a “strong background.”

And finally, NAB President/CEO David Rehr said Clyburn’s previous experience as a newspaper publisher will serve her well as she addresses media-related issues at the FCC.

Clyburn’s seat at the FCC is subject to Senate confirmation.
