Community Broadcasters LLC is purchasing four stations in the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach market from Apex Broadcasting Inc.
The transfer of licenses is pending approval from the FCC. The four Florida stations purchased are WECQ 92.1 FM in Destin; WHWY 98.1 in Holt; WWAV 102.1 FM in Santa Rosa; and WZLB 103.1 in Valparaiso.
“We established Community Broadcasters in 2006 with the vision to become the voice for the community,” said Jim Leven, general partner, president and CEO of Community Broadcasters LLC in the announcement. “Our stations are considered great places to work and we look forward to supporting the staff, listeners and Ft. Walton Beach communities in every way.”
Bruce Mittman, Community Broadcasters’ general partner and COO, said the purchase furthers the company’s vision to grow a small-market radio group in strategic locations. “These Apex stations have an impressive listenership reaching approximately 50 percent of the population in the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach market. That certainly made this purchase very attractive.”
Community Broadcasters LLC, in partnership with Northwood Ventures, owns and operates 16 signals in upstate New York, as well as 16 radio stations, seven translators and three TV construction permits in South Carolina. The purchase from Apex brings Community Broadcasters’ total holdings to 46 signals.
